If you received special education assistance in junior high or high school, and/or you have a documented disability and would like to explore possible accommodations at MWCC please read the following:
If you think you may need an accommodation (i.e. extended time, oral
format) on the College Placement Test, please call the Coordinator for Students with Disabilities at (978) 630-9120 to discuss the matter.- If you have not previously disclosed and are about to take the placement test, you will have the opportunity to disclose on a questionnaire that you will be asked to complete.
- After the placement test, you will need to select your courses. You may want to have the assistance of the Coordinator or Counselor for Students with Disabilities in selecting your courses and particular time scheduling.
- If you think you will need accommodations in your classes, such as extended time to take your tests, or lower distraction testing rooms, you will need to bring documentation to the Coordinator for Students with Disabilities, and have a discussion about appropriate accommodations.
- Based on your documentation, the Coordinator for Students with Disabilities can authorize appropriate accommodations. Everything that you share with her is confidential.
- The Coordinator for Students with Disabilities will fill out the accommodation form that you will give to your instructors. You may want to talk to your instructor about your disability in his/her office.
- If you are authorized to have an accommodation such as your tests given to you in a lower distraction room, or your texts on tape, the Coordinator for Students with Disabilities will help with the arranging of these things.
- It is always preferable for you to seek help early in the semester, but if you do not elect to do so, and discover part way through the semester that you do need help, you can always stop by the office of the Coordinator for Students with Disabilities at that point. From the time you ask for help forward, we can assist you.
- Remember, we are more than happy to provide appropriate academic accommodations for documented disabilities, but only if you ask for them.
