Health Insurance

Health insurance is required by state law for all students registering for nine or more credits.  To ensure that you have proper health insurance, the college provides you with the Community College Health Insurance Plan. You will see a fee for this on your tuition and fees bill (this fee can be waived if you have comparable health insurance, see below).

Coverage

The college’s comprehensive health insurance covers accidents and sickness and both hospital and non-hospital confinement services. There is a pre-existing condition clause, and it is recommended that each student compare the benefits of his/her current coverage before transferring to the college policy.

Open to all enrolled students

All enrolled students and their immediate families are permitted to subscribe to the college insurance program whether they are enrolled in a degree program or not. This means that students who are enrolled for less than nine credits per semester may also apply if they so choose. Details of this coverage may be obtained from the bursar’s office, the health services office, or go to
http://www.universityhealthplans.com/intro/MassCC.html.

I already have health insurance. Can the health insurance fee be waived?

If you have comparable health insurance through another carrier, you may waive the charge by completing the insurance waiver card included with your bill, and returning it to the bursar’s office or by going to http://www.universityhealthplans.com/intro/MassCC.html. The waiver must be completed no later than the first day of classes or your name will be submitted to the insurance company. Once submitted there will be no waiver or refund of the fee. Please note: free care does not constitute comparable coverage.
