New Math Course Sequence Effective Fall 2009

The Mathematics course sequence will be changing its developmental course offering in the fall of 2009. The course sequence will change from a 3-course format, to a 4-course format. This will be accomplished by:

  • Modifying the present MAT-090 and removing the one hour lab;
  • Combining the present MAT-100 and parts of MAT120 into a new 4-credit MAT-092;
  • Combining the remainder of MAT-120 and the present MAT-121 into a new 4-credit MAT-096. This change will create a Mathematics course sequence consistent with the national model.

The new MAT-096, which replaces the present MAT-121, will not be a credit bearing course (developmental courses do not transfer for credit). Given that Mt. Wachusett presently offers college credit towards graduate for MAT-121, any student presently enrolled in MAT-120 will not be able to take MAT-121 in the fall for credit.

Therefore, it is strongly encouraged that all MAT-120 students presently enrolled, (and students who have not completed their Math requirement) take one of the following steps to possibly avoid an addition Math course in the fall.

  • Enroll in MAT-121 this summer to complete your Math requirements before the change takes effect.
  • Summer I MAT-120 students need to take MAT-121 in Summer II to complete their Math requirements before the change takes effect.
  • Summer II students who are taking MAT-120, and all other students who have completed MAT-120 and do not plan to take MAT-121 during the Summer session, should take the free Math review offered in August and retake the placement test to hopefully advance to MAT-126.
  • All students who cannot complete their MAT-121, or place into MAT-126, should contact their advisors for possible alternatives.
