MWCC LIBRARY LAPTOP POLICY

Eligible Borrowers:

Students
must be currently registered at MWCC, listed in the Library’s patron database, and must surrender a form of photo identification for the duration of the loan. Students may check out laptops from the circulation desk for use in the library only.  Photo IDs will be returned to the students when the laptop is returned. Current MWCC Faculty and staff may take the laptops out of the library with proper authorization.

Loan periods:

Students - 2 hours; may be renewed if no other students are waiting
Laptops are checked out on a first come, first served basis. They cannot be reserved in advance.

Faculty/Staff - 3 days (72 hours); longer loan periods will require the approval of the Library Director. The library will honor faculty/staff advance reserve requests when possible.

Borrower's responsibilities:
Laptops must never be left unattended. All borrowers are responsible for the equipment while they have it checked out. Students cannot remove laptops from the library. All laptop users must abide by the MWCC Acceptable Use Policy, and must sign a Users’ agreement.  Users may not install programs or change system settings.

Printing:
Printing from laptops is not available.

Fines:
Overdue laptops will accrue fines at the rate of $5.00 per hour. There is no grace period and no maximum fine. There is a replacement charge for damage to the laptop and/or its peripherals of up to $1,200.00. Borrowers are responsible for full replacement cost if the laptop or any peripherals charged out to them are lost or stolen, or, the full repair or replacement cost if the laptop or any peripherals are damaged or made inoperable in any way, including spilled food or drink.

Before library staff checks out a laptop, the unit will be turned on, and library staff will verify that it powers on. At that time, the student or faculty member will sign a form that states their name, date and time, laptop number, and a statement saying that the unit was able to power on.

Library staff will not provide technical support for the laptops. If the library lab specialist is available, laptop questions may be directed to him/her in the library computer lab. Questions regarding the operation of the laptop will be directed to the Information Systems and Services (ISS) Department.
