GUIDELINES FOR COMPUTER USE
AND INTERNET ACCESS

The computers in the MWCC Library's Open Computer Labs are available on a first come, first served basis. All users must sign in before using the labs. Lab computers are equipped with a wide variety of software, utilized by courses at the College, including Microsoft Office 2000, and Internet Explorer. To see a complete list of software available in the Library's computer labs, please visit the following webpage: http://www.mwcc.mass.edu/HTML/Library/labsoftware.html

Rules governing use
Users of the MWCC Library's computers are expected to use online resources in a responsible manner, consistent with the educational and informational purposes for which they are provided. Any use of the Library's computers for unauthorized, illegal or unethical activities is prohibited. Users must obey all applicable laws regarding copyright or licensing. Users must not make any changes to the setup or configuration of any software or hardware. Misuse or abuse of the computers or Internet access may result in a suspension of Library computer privileges.

Policy
This policy is provided as an addendum to the MWCC Computer and Network Use Policy available on all Library computers. A written copy is available for reference. If you cannot adhere to these policies, please do not use these machines.

The Library Staff reserves the right to restrict use of machines if people are waiting. Priority use is given to members of the Mount Wachusett Community College community (students, faculty and staff), who are using terminals for academic research.

As per the MWCC Computer and Network Use Policy, it is not acceptable to use the Library's computers to send, receive or display text or graphics, which may be reasonably construed as obscene or objectionable. We appreciate your cooperation.

Library patrons may report any incidents of the display of inappropriate material to the library staff.

Children
Students and guests of the college, who bring children on campus, are responsible for them at all times. Children younger than high school age are welcome to use the Library, with supervision by a parent or guardian. Children are welcome to use the computers in the Library, unless an MWCC student, faculty, or staff member is waiting to use a computer. As with all patrons, inappropriate use of the computers may result in a child's use of the computers being denied.

Computer viruses
Anti-viral software is provided on all terminals in the open labs, which will alert users to the presence of viruses on floppy disks. It is important, however, that users also have virus-checking software on their home computer. The MWCC Library is not responsible for any damage to a user's disk or computer, loss of data, or liability that may result from the use of the Library's computers.

Downloading/saving
You may save or download information to pre-formatted 3.5" IBM compatible disks. All downloads should be directed to the A: drive, as information stored on the C: drive will be erased, once the machine is turned off.

Printing
Printing is available from the Library's workstations. The charge is $.10 per page and printouts are available for retrieval from the printer on the Main level of the Library. Instructions for printing are provided on each of the computer terminals. Please remember that a copy card is required for printing from the computers in the Library.

Sound
Anyone using an application which has sound, should use headphones. Headphones are available for loan at the Circulation Desk on the Main level. Headphones circulate upon presentation of a valid student ID/library card.

Staff assistance
The Library Lab Specialist is available to assist you during the day, in using applications available at Library workstations. If the Library Lab Specialist is not available, Library Staff would be glad to help. Please ask.

Wireless access
Wireless access is not available for community users. Currently enrolled students, faculty and staff are able to access the network however, from within the library.
